A Day in the Life of a School Computer/Technical Support Back to Top
Computer support technicians provide computer technical support and advice for businesses, organizations, and schools. They also respond to any computer problems with on-site computer troubleshooting and repair support. In schools, computer technicians work to resolve any computer problem in classrooms and computer labs. Computer support services are important in schools because they resolve the following computer problems: virus removal, PC errors, recovering lost files and data, and more.
Computer support staff members also oversee the maintenance of the school’s computer systems by,
- fixing any technical problems that may occur
- securing network from hackers
- recovering lost files or data
- keeping the software up to date
- repair laptop computers
- printer repair
- offer on-site computer support
To become a computer support technician, having excellent communication, analytical and problem solving skills are essential. A bachelor’s degree for some positions is required, however an associate degree or a certification may be acceptable for other positions. Computer support service technicians usually have backgrounds in computer science, computer engineering, or information systems.
Computer support service technicians working in schools earn about $43,130 annually. Job prospects in this field look excellent as more and more classrooms are beginning to use computers for teaching and learning purposes. Currently, schools have only one-fifth as many IT staff as corporations have. That represents just about one technician for about 450 computers. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of computer support specialists is expected to grow 14% from 2008 to 2018. There are great opportunities out there for anyone who is interested in information technology jobs.
