  • Work directly with clients or students in completing the exercises and activities established in collaboration with the Occupational Therapist.

Though an OT’s assistant receives most of his/her training on the job, a typical candidate will have at minimum an associates degree or a certificate from an accredited community college or vocational school. In many states a OT assistant must pass a national certification exam. The National Board of Certification in Occupational Therpay (NBCOT) offers two examinations; the Occupation Therapist Registered exam (OTR), and for assistants the Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant exam (COTA). As of 2006, the median income for an OT’s assistant’s salary was $46,060. The Occupational Outlook Handbook forecasts that Jobs in this industry will grow at a far more rapid rate than the average industry.
