A Day in the Life of a Business Teacher Back to Top

Overview

Business education involves teaching students the fundamentals, theories, and processes of business. Business education generally includes study in the fields of finance, economics, accounting, marketing, management, and business ethics, amongst others. Business classes are implemented to instill good fundamentals and ethics in a field that often dominates the headlines and minds of the American public. Though business education is taught at many levels, it is not generally seen before secondary school.

High School or Secondary School

Business is taught at an introductory level in many secondary schools throughout the country. These courses generally cover many topics without getting very in-depth. Often, high school business courses focus on economics, both current and historical so that students are aware of forecasts, what causes market fluctuations, and strategies to prevent recessions and crashes in the future. Though business is generally an undergraduate or graduate study, many secondary schools are beginning to implement business into their curriculum, often in an elective form. Business teachers will have a Bachelor’s degree at the high school level, while college or university professors will have at least a MBA degree in the subject they teach, usually with field experience.
