State Teaching Job Initiatives

The West Virginia Department of Education website includes an online education jobs search tool, which allows users to search and browse for teaching jobs in West Virginia by region and specific job type. The webpage also includes an up-to-date table of education jobs and teaching vacancies, making it easy for individual visitors to the site to determine if there are teaching positions open for them. The West Virginia Department of Education also runs the Job Flash Service, an email notification service that sends emails to prospective educators as soon West Virginia teaching jobs become available. Professional Development

West Virginia’s ELearning program was recently created in an effort to increase educational standards in the state. ELearning is open to all West Virginia educators, and allows participants to choose a variety of different professional development courses. ELearning courses may be applied as credit for a variety of purposes, including certification renewal, and graduate level credit.

Benefits & Retirement

Retirement benefits for teachers in West Virginia are handled by the Teachers’ Retirement System (TRS). TRS provides full benefits for teachers age 60+ with at least 5 years of teaching employment, age 55+ with at least 30 years of teaching employment, and all teachers with at least 35 years of teaching employment.
