State Teaching Job Initiatives

The Idaho State Department of Education partnered with SchoolSpring.com to create a searchable online database of available teaching jobs in Idaho. Through this free online service, individuals in search of Idaho teaching jobs are able to browse teaching vacancies by location, specialty, and grade level. The online database also includes information on job fairs, as well as a list of high shortage subject areas. The Department of Education also maintains its own list of education job openings.

Salary & Incentives

In 2007, Idaho ranked 35th in the nation for teacher pay with an average salary of $43,787. Idaho follows a salary schedule for teachers that increases pay according to years of teaching experience, and college degree level. The current minimum salary for first-year Idaho teaching jobs is $31,750.

Professional Development

Idaho public schools follow the Danielson Framework for Teaching as a statewide research-based foundation for teacher evaluation. The framework consists of four domains: planning and preparation, learning environment, instruction and use of assessment, and professional responsibilities, each of which involve different professional development programs and initiatives.

Benefits & Retirement

Idaho public school teachers at age 65 or older with 60+ months of creditable teaching service are eligible for full retirement benefits administered by the Public Employee Retirement System of Idaho (PERSI). Benefits are calculated using months of creditable service and highest average monthly salary.
