Description
An Occupational Therapy Assistant is a para-professional position engaged in organizing, directing and supervising
an occupational therapy program. Work is performed under the general supervision of an Occupational Therapist. Supervision
may be exercised over a small number of care providers assisting with occupational therapy activities. Does related work as
required. Examples of work (illustrative only); Provides instruction to residents in routine activities and activities of daily living;
Confers with and instructs other health care workers and resident’s family in treatment program techniques; Reviews pertinent
data relating to overall treatment planning and evaluation; Elicits information regarding existing skills and capacities; Prepares
written documentation on patients progress and maintains required statistical data; Assists in planning and development of
occupational therapy programs for specific disability groups; Maintains occupational therapy equipment and inventory of
departmental supplies; Assists in carrying out program goals for assigned residents through the application of therapeutic
exercises and activities to improve or maintain functional abilities; Verifies written medical orders for occupational therapy;
Attends and participates in a variety of meetings, conferences, training sessions and workshops related to occupational therapy;
Fabricates and/or repairs adaptive equipment and splints; Attends conferences and clinics related to resident care.
