World’s Most Famous Teachers: Stephen Hawking

Born in the United Kingdom in 1942, Stephen Hawking’s name has become synonymous with genius. Hawking studied at Oxford before spending his career researching at Cambridge. Dealing with cosmology and astrophysics, Hawking is responsible for several widely accepted theoretical developments, such as the Big Band Theory of the start of the universe. His works have been widely studied and have inspired a good deal of awe in the science community.

What makes Hawking even more impressive is the fact that most of his teaching has come from a wheelchair due to a crippling neuromotor disease called amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Virtually unable to move or speak, Hawking uses a computer device to communicate all that goes on in his brilliant mind.  Having come up with the most widely accepted theory of the start of the universe, Hawking will forever be renowned as one of the best teachers of all time.
