One of Our Favorite Fictional Teachers: Ms. Norbury
Let’s face it; high school students can be a pretty difficult group to teach. They are diverse, cliquey, and they tend to know everything already. For this reason, Ms. Norbury (Tina Fey) of “Mean Girls” is a classic example of a teacher who handles the responsibility seamlessly. Using a no-nonsense attitude with hint of sarcasm and a sense of humor, Ms. Norbury does her best to make the school day flow.
When Cady (Lindsay Lohan) struggled to balance her life as a super popular plastic with her natural math talent and old reliable friends, Ms. Norbury helped her keep her focus. In high school, distractions are everywhere. A good teacher will help their students keep their eye on the prize. Ms. Norbury convinces Cady to give up the popular life and stay true to her inner geek and join the math team. Now that’s a convincing teacher. She also unifies an entire school of catty girls after a book of insults is released. All in a days work.
